Freezing rain warning for Pontiac and Outaouais

Freezing rain warning for Pontiac and Outaouais

10 March 2026 à 12:21 pm

Residents of the Pontiac and Outaouais region should prepare for a significant episode of freezing rain, with accumulations expected to reach up to 30 millimeters within 24 hours, from Wednesday morning through Thursday.

According to MétéoMédia, the freezing rain will begin around 4 a.m. Wednesday in Outaouais and will spread to surrounding areas. The most critical period is expected between 4 a.m. and 3 p.m., with a high risk of extremely slippery roads and power outages.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 45–50 km/h in the region, which could worsen ice buildup on power lines and increase the likelihood of electrical disruptions. Local authorities recommend avoiding non-essential travel, checking emergency supplies in case of outages, and remaining cautious on the roads, especially on bridges and exposed areas.

Local details :

  • Outaouais and Pontiac : up to 30 millimeters of freezing rain.

  • Temperatures are expected to drop quickly below freezing, intensifying ice formation on surfaces.

The weather system is then expected to move toward Montréal and Québec, where significant freezing rain and snow accumulations are also predicted. However, the first impacts will be felt in Pontiac and Outaouais at daybreak on Wednesday.

Authorities also advise residents to :

  • Limit travel to emergencies or essential needs only.

  • Monitor trees and branches that could fall under the weight of the ice.

Meteorologists describe this event as one of the most significant since 2023 for the region and warn it could cause substantial disruptions to daily life.
