Free Lecture for Suicide Awareness Week
Free Lecture for Suicide Awareness Week
As part of Suicide Prevention and Life Promotion Week, the public is invited to attend the free lecture Journey of a Fighter on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., at the Agora of the Maison du Citoyen, 25 Laurier Street, in the Hull sector.
The event will feature Étienne Boulay, former Canadian Football League (CFL) star, who will share a personal story that is both moving and inspiring. Behind a successful and celebrated sports career lies a much more complex life journey, marked by concussions, substance use, and profound psychological distress.
During the lecture, Boulay speaks candidly about his struggles and, most importantly, the long process that allowed him to rise again. Now sober and committed to promoting mental health, he addresses the challenges he overcame with humility and at times humor, showing how he rebuilt meaning in his life. His testimony highlights the importance of discipline, determination, and resilience, while emphasizing that asking for help is essential when life becomes overwhelming.
This lecture is designed to be human, relatable, and accessible to anyone affected, directly or indirectly, by mental health issues: youth, adults, caregivers, professionals, or community members. By breaking taboos and fostering dialogue, Journey of a Fighter raises awareness and reminds the community that no one is alone in their suffering.
Admission is free, and no registration is required. Parking is free, with accessible entry via Hôtel-de-Ville Street.
