At the most recent Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM) MRC Assembly (May 26), Premier François Legault pledged to complete the cellular network across Québec if re-elected on October 3, 2022.

During this meeting, which MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller attended, Legault recognized that the incompletion of a stable and efficient cellular network could slow down the economy in certain regions.

“I am thinking of cell phones. Too many residential areas and roads are poorly served. It brakes development, but it is also dangerous during road accidents. We have started to rectify the situation by injecting $50 million into the last budget. I pledge today, if Quebecers trust me once more, to complete the cellular network in all regions during my next mandate. It’s essential. For us, a government for all regions means connected all regions. It means being a more decentralized government, seeing regions with better paid jobs and regions with more autonomy, more resources,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Cellular coverage throughout Quebec is an essential need, both in terms of social life, the economy and the safety of citizens. As spokesperson for the regions, the FQM has made this a priority for the next government. We are happy to see that a first commitment has already been made today,” added the president of the FQM, mayor of Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley and Warden of the MRC de Memphrémagog, Jacques Demers.

Connectivity has been the FQM and the regions main request to Quebec Finance Minister Éric Girard during a pre-budget consultation meeting last February.

The Warden of the MRC Pontiac had the chance to speak quickly with Premier Legault during the event.
