François Legault asks that police be ”less tolerant”

3 April 2020 à 12:00 am

The Premier of Quebec, François Legault, shifted his tone Thursday regarding people and non-essential businesses who do not respect public health directives.

After revealing the most recent COVID-19 update, he said he will be advising police to be less tolerant to those not respecting the rules.

Those who defy the rules with gatherings or continue to work in non-essential businesses could face a fine up to $ 6,000 per person.

To date, Quebec has 5,518 confirmed cases of people with COVID-19 and 365 hospitalizations, 96 in intensive care, and 36 deaths. In Outaouais, 75 cases were confirmed as of April 2nd, 3 p.m.

“I know that the vast majority of Quebecers follow the instructions. I am so proud of Quebecers, you impress me! Unfortunately, there are still people coming together and non-essential service businesses that are open. The police is already intervening, but I ask them to be less tolerant. And anyone who continues to violate the guidelines will be fined $1,000 to $6,000. That’s all they deserve.” – François Legault, Premier of Quebec

The Premier reminded citizens that all measures to limit the spread of the virus must be followed. He invited the Population not to take risks and to avoid any travelling. “Don’t ask yourself if you’re going to be able to pass the checkpoint. Instead, ask yourself if traveling is absolutely essential”, he said during the daily press briefing.
