FQSA Welcomes New Home Support Policy

FQSA Welcomes New Home Support Policy

3 February 2026 à 3:19 pm

The Fédération québécoise des Sociétés Alzheimer (FQSA) welcomes the tabling of the “Mieux chez soi” home support policy, as well as announcements regarding the program’s evolution toward a Home Autonomy Allowance. According to the organization, these directions represent a significant step forward for the aging-in-place of vulnerable individuals and for better recognition of the role of caregivers.

Over the past few months, the FQSA has participated in the discussions that led to the development of these orientations. It highlights the concerted efforts of government, community, and health network partners—including social economy home-help businesses (EÉSAD)—who have contributed to strengthening support measures for those wishing to remain at home for as long as possible.

For individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or another neurocognitive disorder, home support remains a central element in maintaining quality of life. The FQSA believes that the increased recognition of the caregiver’s role, combined with the announcement of a future Home Autonomy Allowance, is a positive signal regarding the need to better support those who take on a significant portion of care and companionship.

The FQSA points out that these announcements must now translate into a coherent and flexible implementation, capable of adapting to changing needs throughout the home-care journey. This message is part of the “Don’t Forget Anyone!” campaign, conducted in January as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, which aims to remind us of the importance of placing individuals and their loved ones at the heart of public decisions.
