Fort-Coulonge to Have a Fourth Mayor in Eight Years: Pierre Cyr First to Declare Candidacy

Fort-Coulonge to Have a Fourth Mayor in Eight Years: Pierre Cyr First to Declare Candidacy

22 September 2025 à 2:00 pm

The decision by outgoing Fort-Coulonge Mayor Christine Francoeur to run for a councillor’s seat has set the stage for yet another change in the mayor’s office. After decades of stability under Hector Souci (1969–1999) and Raymond Durocher (1999–2017), the municipality is now preparing to see its fourth mayor in just eight years.

Gaston Allard succeeded Raymond Durocher in the 2017 election but resigned in 2020. Debbie Laporte then became the first woman to hold the position. Christine Francoeur was elected in 2021 and is completing her mandate.

So far, the only declared candidate is Pierre Cyr, well known in the community for his involvement in various initiatives, including organizing hot air balloon rides, providing weather updates on CHIP 101.9, and participating in several community and citizens’ groups. This is not his first step into politics—he was the Green Party of Quebec candidate in the 2022 election.

Pierre Cyr is scheduled to appear on CHIP 101.9 this Thursday.
