Fort-Coulonge man arrested for fleeing police on bike path, methamphetamine possession
At around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening (November 19), officers with the Sûreté du Québec were posted up at the intersection of rue Principale and rue Russell in Fort-Coulonge when they encountered a man on an ATV. According to a statement from police, the headlight wasn’t on and the driver, a 27-year-old man from Fort-Coulonge, was using a head-lamp to navigate.
He didn’t stop for the police and fled on rue Romain, before entering the PPJ cycling trail. Officers followed the suspect and arrested him shortly after, while he was walking on the trail.
He is scheduled to appear today at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse where he could face charges of dangerous driving, fleeing police and possession of narcotics, as police note that they seized methamphetamine tablets during the arrest. The ATV was seized for 30 days.
