Ford is recalling approximately 33,000 vehicles in Canada due to a transmission issue that could prevent some models from remaining stationary when placed in “P” (Park).

The manufacturer warns that affected vehicles may move unexpectedly even after being parked. Until the repair is complete, owners are advised to always engage the electronic parking brake before leaving their vehicle.

Affected Models

The recall affects the following models:

  • Ford F-150 (2021)
  • Ford Expedition (2018 to 2021)
  • Ford Explorer (2020 and 2021)
  • Lincoln Navigator (2018 to 2021)
  • Lincoln Aviator (2020 and 2021)

According to Ford Canada, the problem stems from the transmission’s parking pawl, which could momentarily engage while the vehicle is still in motion. This situation can damage certain transmission components, subsequently preventing the mechanism from holding the vehicle in park.

Owners will soon receive a letter inviting them to schedule an appointment with their dealership. The repair, offered free of charge, will include a software update for the powertrain control module and an inspection of the transmission locking mechanism. Damaged parts will be replaced as needed.

Drivers can also check if their vehicle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Ford or Lincoln website.
