Fire at Gatineau Hospital Thursday
According to the Centre Intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais, a fire broke out on the ground floor of the Gatineau hospital on Thursday. Aside from obstetrics wing, the other services were forced to evacuate and remained closed for the day due to the smoke; the outpatient clinics; the sampling service; the Le Copain Clinic (pediatrics); imaging; oncology; and laboratories.
Yesterday, the CISSS de l’Outaouais confirmed that the situation did not require an evacuation of hospitalized patients due to their safety not being compromised. Patients who had appointments at the hospital have been advised of the closures and their appointments have been proposed.
All outpatient services (outpatient clinics, specimens, radiology, etc.) have resumed today, while the operating theatre will only resume on Monday due to the issue of sterilization where the fire started. However, two operating rooms will be still be in service over the weekend for emergencies.
It should also be noted that the Obstetrics Department of the Gatineau Hospital is now operational.
