Familiprix continues its ecological shift

Familiprix intends to stop the sale of bottled water of 750ml and less in its affiliated pharmacies starting in 2020. The owner of the Shawville store, Marc Aufranc, will take part in this initiative while continuing his turn eco-friendly, notably by banning plastic bags and offering the possibility to its customers to buy certain bulk products.

According to Familiprix, more than 10 million single-use plastic water bottles will be withdrawn each year from different affiliated locations, apart from one-liter and larger formats. These will remain available in pharmacies to meet the immediate and urgent needs of the population, especially for medical use.

For Marc Aufranc, bottles containing four liters and more of water remain useful, but he hopes to stop the sale of bottles with less capacity in the coming years.

As a sustainable alternative to bottled water, Familiprix pharmacies now have refillable water bottle filling stations. Other eco-friendly solutions should be brought by the company in the coming months. The complete interview with Marc Aufranc is available here.
