Major military exercise planned over Davidson Mill area: day and night helicopter training expected
Residents of the Davidson Mill area will need to keep an eye on the skies in the coming days. The Department of National Defence has announced a large-scale military training exercise conducted by the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command.
The deployment will take place in two distinct phases in order to test troop capabilities under varying visibility conditions. Activities will begin on May 6th, 2026, with a daytime training session scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The following day, on May 7th, military personnel will carry out nighttime training between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.
The public is advised that up to four CH-146 Griffon helicopters may be seen operating in the area. Although these aircraft are equipped with door-mounted machine guns, authorities reassure residents that no ammunition will be used and no live-fire exercises are planned during the operation. In addition to helicopters, military aircraft will also be audible in the region.
The Special Operations Forces Command has stated that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions to local communities, while also expressing its gratitude to residents for their support and understanding during this important training exercise.
