Essential stores will be closed on Sundays
Essential stores will be closed on Sundays throughout the month of April, to give employees a day off. Only service stations, convenience stores, pharmacies and take out / restaurant deliveries will remain open during this time.
This new measure announced Monday by the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, is intended to to give a break to essential services workers in the fight against COVID-19.
Another objective is to reduce traffic in stores, thereby curbing the risk of spreading COVID-19. “I am aware that workers in essential businesses, such as grocery stores, are starting to get tired. By closing Sunday, we will allow employees to rest” said the Prime Minister. Closed businesses may, however, retain certain employees to maintain inventory management and deliveries.
Summary of reported cases of COVID-19
4 162 confirm cases in the province as of Tuesday afternoon, while there are 50 in Outaouais. A total of 31 deaths have been recorded in the province. On top of that we note 5 new cases in Renfrew.
The Premier did, however, add that the situation is “under control” in hospitals, with a “stable” increase in people in intensive care.
Some medical equipment is reserved for health personnel and sick patients
The Premier once again asked Quebecers not to use protective equipment, such as the N-95 masks, procedural masks, gloves and gowns. These should be reserved for healthcare personnel and affected patients. “The whole world is in demand for this equipment. It is essential to keep protective equipment for those who really need it. You have to use this equipment responsibly, you can’t waste it, ”said Mr. Legault.
To protect yourself from COVID-19, you must comply with the instructions, in particular washing your hands frequently with soap and water and keeping a distance of 2 meters with other people, he reminded.
The Quebec government says it works closely with Quebec companies so that they can manufacture additional equipment quickly.
