The Écoles écocitoyennes de l’Outaouais program has unveiled the region’s schools that will participate in its 2020-2022 cohort. Among the schools selected, we find the Sieur-de-Coulonge high school (ESSC). The Enviro Éduc-Action organization provides this program, which offers a full support service to help schools with their environmental projects, improve their environmental record and develop their students’ eco-citizen leadership.

“These establishments already have a lot of project ideas in mind: recycling masks, greening the land, awareness campaigns,” reveals Geneviève Carrier, Executive Director of Enviro Éduc-Action. We want to further support and motivate the green student committees in order to mobilize them in their school. Considering the circumstances, it is quite a challenge, but we can see the efforts of staff members and students, “said Enviro Éduc-Action director Geneviève Carrier.

The first step will be an analysis of the school’s waste consumption to put in place solutions to reduce the amount of waste produced by students and ESSC staff. Participation is for two years. Enviro Éduc-Action proposes a formula that will continue to include environmental education in the school curriculum. The exclusive content made available to school staff will include video workshops, training and activities for all levels, turnkey kits and guides, not to mention the support and advice of the program coordinator. The full interview with Geneviève Carrier is available here.
