Environmental writer Katharine Fletcher retires column after 34 years

31 October 2023 à 3:00 pm

Earlier this year, Katharine Fletcher, a Pontiac environmentalist and writer, announced that she would be stepping back from writing columns for several local publications after 34 years in the business. Most recently, her column “Our Environment” was published in the Pontiac Journal, Aylmer Bulletin and West Quebec Post, covering environmental issues both local and international.

She explained that her decision to step away coincided with some other changes in her personal life, and said that she hoped someone else takes up the task of writing about the region’s environment.

Fletcher said she’s been asked if the subject is a depressing one to cover, and her response is that since it’s such an incredibly broad topic, you can find all kinds of interesting things to write about without dwelling on the negative.

Fletcher also spoke about some of the projects that she’s going to be focusing on in the future, including her artwork and her work supporting the conservation of the Dumoine River watershed, among others.
