“Encouraging data in the Outaouais” – Brigitte Pinard

The acting director of public health in the Outaouais, Dr Brigitte Pinard, revealed encouraging data yesterday for the Outaouais region. Even if the pandemic is now yet over, the decrease in new cases, the declining number of people hospitalized and the vaccination rate in the region show that the Outaouais is in an increasingly enviable position in the fight against COVID-19.

Looking at the data for the past 4 weeks, there are some encouraging data. The number of new cases and the number of outbreaks have decreased. The same goes for the positivity rate.

Dr. Pinard also described the situation as fragile in the Outaouais, given that the number of hospitalizations is still higher than elsewhere in Quebec.

Another downside for Dr. Pinard, unlike in recent weeks, it is not the MRC Pontiac that worries her, but the MRC Papineau, which has experienced an increase in new cases recently.

Following Premier Legault’s deconfinement plan, Brigitte Pinard believes that it is still too early to know if the Outaouais is ready to go back down to the orange level.

We hope that with the encouraging data, that we will also be able to change at the orange level, but it is still too early.
– Dr Pinard

Note that the number of active cases currently at 14 in the RLS Pontiac, according to data from the CISSS de l’Outaouais available here.
