Employees between the ages of 60 and 69 can return to work
Although the Legault government has warned people over the age of 60 in the past few weeks as being at risk of developing complications related to COVID-19, school and daycare workers under the age of 70 will be able to resume work on the reopening of establishments.
Those who are less than this age will be able to go to work at the reopening of these establishments, scheduled for May 11th. The Deputy Premier of Quebec and Minister of Public Security, Geneviève Guilbault, said that Quebec’s public health authorities have set the risk factor for workers in this field at 70 years.
National Director of Public Health, Dr Horacio Arruda, also provided details on the return of the experienced workers to the field.
The risks of complications associated with COVID-19 gradually increase with age and for people with certain medical conditions. Although scientific knowledge is evolving rapidly, public health estimates that the risks of complications are significantly increased after the age of 70.
Quebec invites all employers, including those in the school environment and in educational childcare, to be flexible and to consider all the necessary accommodations for their employees who could pose significant risks.
