Today is the last day to submit your candidacy for the November 5 election. To date, residents of at least 9 out of 18 municipalities in the Pontiac MRC will go to the polls to choose a Mayor.

In Rapides-des Joachims, Marc Deschenes and the outgoing mayor James Gibson are running.

On Allumettes Island, Outgoing councillor Geneviève O’Brien has submitted her candidacy, outgoing Mayor Winston Sunstrum has also submitted his candidacy as well as Kevin Vickers.

In Mansfield, outgoing Mayor Katlheen Belec is running again. Terry Levesque and Gilles Dionne are also running in Mansfield

In the neighbouring municipality of Fort-Coulonge, Gaston Allard will face outgoing councillor Jacques Masseau. Speaking of Fort-Coulonge Mélissa Lemay also applied today for the councillor # 3 position.

Serge Newberry, Lina Lacroix-Ricard and former Mayor Paul-Émile Maleau are on the list on Grand Calumet Island.

Municipal elections will also be held in Shawville, Litchfield, Alleyn-et-Caewood and Campbell’s Bay.

It should be noted that in 2013, 9 out of 18 mayors were elected by acclamation.

As for the Warden, the five candidates are running, Raymond Durocher, Charlotte L’Écuyer, Linda Davis, Pierre Fréchette and Jane Toller. The 5 will meet next Tuesday at the Campbell’s Bay Recreation Center for a debate in both French and English.
