Easter Monday: a statutory holiday for most workers in Quebec
As Easter approaches, many Quebecers are wondering if they will get the day off. According to the Labor Standards Act, Easter Monday is a statutory holiday in Quebec, which means that most employees are entitled to paid time off.
There are, however, some exceptions: essential sectors such as healthcare, security services, or public transportation may require employees to work on that day. In such cases, employees are entitled to either additional pay or a day off in lieu.
The Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) reminds employers that workers required to work on a statutory holiday must be properly compensated in accordance with the standards set forth by law.
For most Quebecers, Easter Monday remains a time to enjoy a well-deserved day off and celebrate the holiday with family or friends.
