Death of Dr. Wilbert Keon, native of Sheenboro and world pioneer in surgery

Dr. Wilbert Joseph Keon died, on Sunday, at the age of 83. Born in Sheenboro on May 17th, 1935, Keon was the founder and retired General Manager of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He also held a lengthy career as a Conservative Senator for almost 20 years.

Dr. Keon stood out by being the first doctor in the country to pose an artificial heart. He is considered a pioneer in his field medicine having an international reputation in surgery, and performed around 10,000 open-heart surgeries in his career. More details will be available soon.
