CREDDO encourages Outaouais businesses to start transitioning towards circular economy
The Gatineau Chamber of Commerces (CCG) and the Conseil régional de l’environnement et du développement durable de l’Outaouais (CREDDO) are encouraging Outaouais businesses to start making the transitions towards implementing circular economy methods.
A circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. (More below)
“Although the concept of a green, united and prosperous recovery has been repeated by multiple experts and elected officials for more than a year, the transition to this new economy will be quite slow,” the CREDDO and CCG wrote in a joint press release. “The decisions being taken right now are still considered to be under a linear model, which boils down to produce-consume-throw away. The CCG and CREDDO is inviting you to a virtual regional workshop as part of the Grande tournée québécoise sur l’économie circulaire. The sustainable ecological and economic transition in the Outaouais is everyone’s business. The circular economy is a powerful lever to enable all businesses to be more profitable, to meet growing customer demand, to be more competitive in retaining their workforce and, ultimately, to contribute collectively to fight climate change. To do this, the transition to a circular economy relies on a variety of strategies in order to avoid depleating our resources and instead to optimize them.”
To find out what strategies have been put in place, the CCG and CREDDO are encouraging Outaouais businesses to participate in the regional workshop: PASSEZ À L’ACTION, as part of the Circular Economy Tour, on Thursday, February 17 next from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The workshop will help develop collaboration and mobilization reflexes, as well as demystify the implementation of circular economy strategies among Outaouais businesses through concrete examples.
What is circular economy?
The circular economy business model is a method of rethinking all stages of the production and consumption process, in order to optimize the use of resources and design sustainable products and services. It is clear that adopting circular economy practices offers many opportunities for businesses in the Outaouais, including: reducing, or even eliminating, the extraction of resources linked to production and consumption, encouraging the circulation of materials while reducing business costs and avoid wasting resources.
