COVID-19 vaccines available again this week at area pharmacies

The provincial government has reversed its decision to reduce the amount that pharmacies are reimbursed for administering COVID-19 vaccines. As Marc Aufranc, the proprietor of the Familiprix pharmacy in Shawville told CHIP 101.9 last week, he was not able to administer vaccines after the government lowered the reimbursement per dose by $5, from $17.10 on March 30.

Aufranc said that after hearing on Friday that the previous price would be paid once again, he had ordered more vaccines and would be able to start administering them again by Thursday.

He explained that each patient can require up to a half-hour of administrative work, which adds up, so when their previous contract expired, they weren’t able to offer it anymore.

He said that there was still demand for the vaccines, with many people getting their boosters and vulnerable populations cleared for a fourth dose. He added that they were still occasionally seeing first doses as well. To register for a vaccine, use the government’s online portal.

The full interview with Aufranc is available here.
