Council approves $10k MRC office renovations to comply with fire code
At the MRC Pontiac council of mayors meeting on May 22, a resolution was passed approving just over $10,000 in renovations to the MRC office to comply with the fire code.
According to the resolution, on March 25 of this year, the building was inspected and several “anomalies” were found.
Speaking after the meeting, MRC Director General Kim Lesage explained that the changes were minor fixes, such as emergency signs not lighting up, electrical outlets without covers, or even a sign pointing to the wrong exit. She added that according to the law, they must also ensure that their exit signage is the same, which will require replacing some old red exit signs with new green pictographic ones.
MRC Fire and Public Safety coordinator Julien Gagnon confirmed that according to Quebec’s building code, specifically Note A-10.3.4.4.(1), exit signs in the same floor area must all be uniform. He said that though it is a minor quibble, as the regional inspectors, the MRC should set an example.
The resolution approv ed accepting a bid from Vallée du Pontiac Électrique inc. to make the modifications for an amount of $10,699.80 (taxes in), with the funds coming from the accumulated surplus.
