Coulonge River levels under close surveillance today and tomorrow
On Friday (April 14), the Municipalities of Mansfield-et-Pontefract and Fort-Coulonge issued public notices regarding the level of the Coulonge River, which is expected to peak Tuesday. The municipalities are asking their citizens to take the necessary precautions to protect their property and ensure the safety of their families.
“Due to the rapid melting of the snow, the Coulonge River is continuously rising and may overflow its banks,” Mansfield’s statement reads. “The river’s flow could reach 500 m3/s on Monday April 17 and peak at 600 m3/s on Tuesday April 18. The Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract is asking all citizens whose homes are located along the Coulonge River to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of their family members and the protection of their property. Please secure your belongings along the Coulonge River as soon as possible.”
Among other things, it is recommended not to leave any objects that could be washed away by the river and cause damage later. Note that 10 to 20 mm of rain are expected in the coming hours in the region.
