Community organizations gather to talk food security, sustainability

On April 10, the Little Red Wagon Winery in Clarendon was the host of a forum on food security and sustainability. The event was a collaboration by local food bank Bouffe Pontiac, regional health authority CISSSO, MRC Pontiac and the Concertation pour de saines habitudes de vie en Outaouais.

Bouffe’s Director Kim Laroche explained that the event built on previous forums held throughout the Outaouais. The evening opened with two presentations by MRC employees on food security and food waste, and participants broke off in groups afterwards for discussion.

Laroche said that the goal of the evening was for different community organizations to understand the role and capabilities of other groups, and to find ways to work together.

She also spoke about some of the barriers Pontiacers face to accessing healthy food, including the vast distances some have to travel for groceries.
