Community Mobilization for Café Downtown in Fort-Coulonge

25 February 2026 à 11:38 am

A citizen movement is taking shape in our community. A group of residents is mobilizing to preserve a valuable business at the heart of our town: Café Downtown.

Since opening in 2021, Café Downtown has become much more than just a restaurant. It’s a meeting place, a space for exchange, and a cultural hub. People gather there to share quality meals, attend activities, and connect with neighbors. In short, it is the social heartbeat of the community.

Currently, residents from Fort-Coulonge, Mansfield-et-Pontefract, and surrounding municipalities are joining forces to ensure the café’s continuity. Everyone interested is invited to a meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Club de L’Âge D’Or de Fort-Coulonge, located at 566 Rue Baume.

A representative from the Outaouais-Laurentides Regional Development Cooperative will be present to explain the next steps and possible options, including creating a cooperative model. Participants will have the opportunity to speak freely and even join a temporary committee formed during the meeting.

Municipal representatives, a former café owner, and several citizens have already confirmed their attendance. But the success of this project depends on popular mobilization. This café is a vital part of our social life and the region’s tourism development.

A special call goes out to young people: your voice matters. This unifying project can become yours.

Let’s act together to preserve this place that brings us together. Because a café is more than a business — it’s a living space.
