Commonwealth Plywood confirms the reopening of the Rapide-des-Joachims sawmill and the hiring of employees
Commonwealth Plywood has confirmed what was announced this week at CHIP 101.9, the reopening of the sawmill located in Rapide-de-Joachims, in the MRC Pontiac. This reopening is of strategic importance, since it is the first reopening in more than 10 years on the territory of the MRC Pontiac. La Compagnie Commonwealth Plywood Ltée / Commonwealth Plywood Co. Ltd (‘Commonwealth’) is pleased to announce a re-opening of its sawmill located at Rapides-des-Joachims in Pontiac County, Quebec. The sawmill has been closed for many years due to a number of factors external to the Company. For the past year, Commonwealth has invested over $1 million (CDN) to get the sawmill operating and expects to open the mill to begin operations in November.
The sawmill will begin by sawing White and Red Pine on one shift and expects to hire the over 65 people required to operate the mill and in the forestry operations in the very near future. We would like to thank the Warden of the Pontiac MRC Mme Jane Toller for her direct involvement and also the involvement of Forestry Minister Pierre Dufour and his staff for helping to make things happen.
Commonwealth Plywood harvests, transforms and distributes forestry and related products. The company operates over 10 production facilities in Quebec and 1 in the United States.
