The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in the Outaouais-Laurentides region is encouraging road users to be cautious, especially in the coming weeks. The return of cold weather coincides with an upsurge of collisions with white-tailed deer.

The SQ mentioned that the Outaouais-Laurentides territory sees a very high number of collisions of the kind, and it is therefore important to remind all road users to remain vigilant. Among other things, it is also important to slow down where there are deer signs, as well as in areas with a reduced field of vision due to forests or high vegetation along the road. On the road network served by the SQ, there are several hundred collisions involving deer annually.

The white-tailed deer collisions are spread over the entire road network, rather than concentrated at specific points. In addition to the efforts undertaken on the field, raising awareness among the population remains an important means of prevention and the vigilance of road users is the most effective way to reduce the number of collisions.
