The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Change advises the public that it has agreed with the Municipality of Pontiac and the City of Gatineau to prohibit access to Aquafolie Beach, Camp des Voyageurs Tim Horton as well as access to the Cedars beach due to a high bacteriological contamination.

The results of the analysis of the samples taken on 21 August 2017 showed that the swimming waters of these beaches did not comply with the bacteriological quality standards of the Ministry. Indeed, the two beaches along the Ottawa River both obtained a bacteriological classification of D, meaning that the water is considered “polluted”.

The public needs to refrain from swimming at these beaches until the advisory is lifted by the Department.

In order to know the bacteriological quality of beach water of the beaches eligible for the Environment-Plage program, consult the website of the Ministry. You can also call the regional headquarters of the Center de contrôle environnemental du Québec at 819-772-3434, from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
