Closings, cancellations, postponed events: Pontiac reaction to COVID-19
Various Pontiac organizations have canceled or postponed events as a preventive measure for the spread of COVID-19. CHIP 101.9 will update the following list based on the information obtained:
Because of the potential risk, Les amis du manoir St-Joseph and Le Centre Valentin in Campbell’s Bay ask families and friends to refrain from visiting residents.
Hockey: The finals of the Ligue AA de l’Outaouais series, between the Pontiac Comets and the Maniwaki Forestiers, has been suspended.
Stores: The measures announced by the Quebec government concerning the coronavirus increased the traffic in grocery stores. See how the Mansfield Metro grocery store is preparing for this increase in ridership.
Schools: All schools and daycare services are closed for a period of two weeks.
Bouffe Pontiac: the thrift store will be closed until further notice. Consequently, the organization will not accept without exception any donation related to the thrift store.
The Défi des chefs Leucan Outaouais, in which our host Marie Gionet was to participate, has been postponed to a later date.
The ZEC Pontiac postpones its Annual General Meeting to an undetermined date.
The Observatoire du développement de l’Outaouais (ODO) cancels all of its conferences related to the Portrait of Outaouais’ communities, including the meeting scheduled for March 16th in the MRC Pontiac.
The Shawville Figure Skating Club cancels its year-end show, which was scheduled to take place on March 20th.
The Montreal Canadiens games, broadcasted on CHIP 101.9, are suspended until further notice.
Health Minister Danielle McCann announced that fifteen new screening centers will be deployed across Quebec in the coming days, including in Outaouais.
The CISSS de l’Outaouais indicated that the clinic will be located at 135, boulevard St-Raymond, in Gatineau (Hull sector), and will open on Saturday. Users must contact 1-877-644-4545 to obtain an appointment to the clinic. The CISSS de l’Outaouais plans to conduct up to 400 screening tests per week. They also do not exclude adding additional centers in the various sectors of the Outaouais if needed.
Measures announced by the Premier of Quebec, François Legault:
– Self-isolation for 14 days for anyone who, as of March 12th, 2020, returns from abroad
– Mandatory isolation for 14 days for all public service employees and health care, education and daycare workers, both private and public, who, as of March 12th, 2020, return from abroad
– The cancellation, as of March 12th, 2020 and for 30 days, of indoor gatherings of more than 250 people or unnecessary gatherings.
– The closing of all childcare services (childcare centres, subsidized and non-subsidized childcare services, home childcare services and unregulated childcare services) and the education network (elementary and secondary schools, training centres, private schools, CEGEPs, colleges and universities) from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 27th. (However, measures will be implemented to continue to offer childcare services to parents who work in the health network and in essential services)
– Access to CHSLDs will be restricted by security officers, who will verify the origin of visitors and require hand washing.
So far, five cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Ottawa, none in the Outaouais. (Updated at 12:30 p.m., March 14th, 2020). A total of 21 cases have been identified in Quebec.
The Union des municipalités du Quebec (UMQ) has identified suggestions for actions to take for Quebec municipalities in the fight against COVID-19.
The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller, wrote a message to residents in regards to the actual situation.
