Claude Bertrand named Green Party candidate for Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi
When the next federal election is called, it will be Claude Bertrand representing the Green Party in the riding of Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi.
The party’s candidate in the 2019 election, he finished in 5th place with 3,762 votes or 6%. A retired engineer and RCAF pilot, he has resided in the Municipality of La Pêche full time since 2016.
He said that his motivation for getting involved stemmed from the Liberal party scrapping their 2015 election promise of electoral reform.
Bertrand said that the Greens aligned most closely with his political views, because he believes the protection of the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions is of the utmost importance. He was critical of the work of local MP Sophie Chatel and pointed to the housing crisis as an example mismanagement by the Liberal government.
