The region has been experiencing more cases influenza over the two months, according to the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de l’Outaouais. The last time the region experienced such an intense influenza season was 5 years ago according to the statistics by the Public Health Department. Compared with last year, the number of confirmed influenza cases has quadrupled.

The situation is not the same everywhere in the Outaouais. According to data published yesterday morning, the emergency occupancy rate was 200% at the Gatineau Hospital, 188% at Hull, but only 75% at the Pontiac Hospital in Shawville.

The CISSS de l’Outaouais asks the public to reduce as much traffic as possible in its facilities. Simple measures such as hand washing and coughing and sneezing in the elbow helps to reduce the risk of transmission of the influenza virus in the community.
