CHSBO reiterates the importance of maintaining public governance of school boards
The Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais School Board (CSHBO) is asking the Quebec government to “rethink” its bill project concerning the plan to abolish the governance of school board system in Quebec. The president of CSHBO, Diane Nault, deplores in particular the abolishment of school elections, which could restrict the representation of citizens in school boards.
Last April, Quebec Premier François Legault announced his intention to introduce a bill project in the fall of 2019 to replace school boards with “service centers” and to abolish school elections as well. Diane Nault said that she is afraid of losing the close relationship and service with parents and families living on the territory of the school board.
At the most recent meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the CSHBO, May 22nd, a resolution was unanimously adopted to ask the Quebec government to “maintain school boards within a framework renewed governance, where elected representatives are democratically chosen by the entire population of Quebec “. Diane Nault thinks that the elected representatives in school play an important role in the development of local services in our region.
The Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais School Board hopes, by signing this resolution, to obtain the support of municipalities located on its territory.
