Chichester looks to repair Nichabau Road, spruce up waterfront
Like other municipalities throughout the Pontiac region, Chichester’s council recently passed their 2022 budget. Mayor Donald Gagnon said that after recieving new assessments, they decided to drop the mill rate to 70 cents per $100 evaluation from 76.
He said that similar to other municipalities such as Fort-Coulonge, some evaluations had to be corrected.
Gagnon said that one of the big projects that they had planned was the refurbishment of the Nichabaud Road with the help of some provincial funding, which he said would cost nearly $2 million. He said that they would also be making headway on their waterfront project, which aims to install a walkway and gazebo near the riverfront.
Gagnon said that there had been quite a few properties being bought and sold in the area, and said that he knew of some young families moving to the area, which was encouraging.
