The estimated time until reopening of Chemin de la Montagne is Saturday, December 2nd. A team of engineers were on site Monday to assess the work needed.

Dominic Labrie, from the municipality’s communications department, gave CHIP an update on the situation and the work that needs to be done.

“A 6-foot diameter pipeline that was to be changed next spring caused a culvert to collapse on Chemin de la Montagne at Horticulture Latrémouille last Saturday. Until the time the road is reopened, it will be possible to get around it, via Highway 148 or Chemin Elm, Terry Fox and Baillie. ”

The inspection revealed that it should be possible to stabilize the pipe so that it holds up well into the summer, where the proper repair work can be done. Dominic Labrie;

“The operation essentially consists of sealing the pipe with metal and concrete and rebuilding the roadway. ”

The complete replacement of this pipe, as well as the one located nearby, will prove expensive and complex, because of the soil structure and the footprints that need to be acquired. A geotechnical study was conducted last summer and plans are being completed to allow for the work to start in the summer of 2018.

The MNA for Pontiac and Quebec Minister of Transport, André Fortin, went to the Municipality of Pontiac Monday to meet the municipal workers. He also went on the Chemin de la Montagne to see the extent of the damage and to assure Mayor Labadie of the provinces support.
