Celebration of the First Fire Service Cohort at Sieur-de-Coulonge
It was a night of celebration on Tuesday as 16 students who completed their fire service training at the high school were honored. The project has already had a significant impact on recruitment for fire departments in the Pontiac RCM. For Sieur-de-Coulonge High School teacher Martin Bertrand, it is a proud collective achievement.
“We are the first cohort of the brand-new civil security program in high schools.”
Emma Rochon, who completed the training and is already involved with the Mansfield-et-Pontefract Fire Department, said the program even influenced her career path.
“I’m already a firefighter in Mansfield. Before starting the firefighter course, I was really planning to go into sports medicine.”
Kayden Lévesque, meanwhile, is involved with the Fort-Coulonge Fire Department. He says teamwork has played a major role in shaping his path.
“As a firefighter, you always have to be at least two people. You’re always part of a team — you’re never alone.”
