Caught in litigation with the NCC over tax amounts, Chelsea satisfied with Committee recommendations
Caught up in a dispute with the National Capital Commission (NCC), the Municipality of Chelsea said it was satisfied to learn of the Advisory Committee’s recommendations regarding the amounts of tax to be paid.
Since 2018, the municipalities of Pontiac, La Pêche and Chelsea have had a dispute with the NCC regarding the amount of taxes from Gatineau Park. The NCC challenged the tax rate and had asked to go before the Advisory Committee. The sum represents, in the case of Chelsea, $ 589,427, a shortfall that taxpayers have since had to assume.
“In the case of Chelsea, the property appraisal is in the hands of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, whose appraisers follow strict standards of practice and are governed by a code of ethics” explains the Mayor of Chelsea, Caryl Green.
Satisfied with the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, Mayor Caryl Green says she hopes to move on and hopes that the NCC will follow the recommendations.
“This is a dispute that has been going on since 2018. For the taxpayers and also the employees of the municipality who have worked tirelessly on this file, we hope to be able to move on,” said the mayor of Chelsea, Caryl Green.
This recommendation of the Advisory Committee could also have repercussions for the municipalities of Pontiac and La Pêche which are grappling with the same dispute with the NCC, having part of their territory occupied by Gatineau Park. The full interview with Caryl Green is available here.
