The Crown corporation is accelerating a transformation plan requested by Ottawa, aimed at adapting its services to the steadily declining volume of letters and avoiding a financial burden on taxpayers.

The project, already under discussion for several months, envisions a gradual shift toward community mailboxes, as are already seen in some regions. However, unions are concerned about the impacts on employment and on residents in rural areas, who rely heavily on daily postal service.

Despite a tentative agreement reached in November following rotating strikes, the full plan has not yet been made public, adding uncertainty around these changes. Canada Post describes this as a pivotal moment to ensure its viability, but the shift is controversial and could disrupt the daily lives of many Canadians.

Stay tuned to follow the developments in this story, which could transform the way we receive our mail.
