Call for caution during the Labor Day long weekend
In a press release, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) calls for caution to all road users during the last long weekend of summer.
The principle of caution, as defined in the Highway Safety Code, aims to ensure the safety of everyone on the road network. It provides that every road user is required, especially with regard to those who are more vulnerable, to act with caution and respect when traveling on a public road. The vulnerable user is, for their part, required to adopt behaviors that promotes their safety.
Remember that speeding and reckless driving, distraction, driving impaired by alcohol, drugs or a combination of the two, as well as not wearing a seat belt are the main causes of fatal collisions or with serious injuries in Quebec.
Last year, six fatal collisions occurred in SQ territory during Labor Day weekend. In order to reduce the risk of being involved in a collision, adopting responsible and safe behavior on the road is essential.
