Caisse Desjardins: a petition for the branch to stay in Fort-Coulonge

The Caisse Desjardins des Rivières de Pontiac’s ‘project d’immobilisation’, which includes the possibility of relocation of the Fort-Coulonge branch, is once again generating interest in the community. A petition has been put in place to keep the current location of the Fort-Coulonge office, 175 Main Street.

The main initiator of this petition, Gaétan Viau, is hoping to demonstrate by collecting signatures the “will of the residents” to keep the Caisse in their community.

According to Viau, several elements would justify keeping the branch in Fort-Coulonge:

The subject made headlines at CHIP 101.9 on April 17th, after concerns were raised by local citizens and politicians at the municipal council meeting of the municipality of Fort-Coulonge.

Stéphane Labine, director of the Caisse des Rivières de Pontiac, admitted in an interview that the board of directors was considering various options, namely the renovation of the current building or the relocation of the branch with the possibility of becoming a tenant or an owner. Taking into account many criteria and conditions, the proposed alternatives must be analyzed in order to arrive at a final decision.

Also during this interview, Stéphane Labine specified that the Board of Directors of Caisse des Rivières de Pontiac plans to consult its members as the project progresses in order to consider their position before concluding any relocation or renovation decision. According to Labine, various promoters have been approached to compare the options offered. Remember that the project could reach $ 1.4 million in investment.
