With the holidays approaching, local food bank Bouffe Pontiac is gearing up for their busiest period of the year.

CHIP 101.9 spoke with Director General Kim Laroche to discuss how their their preparations for the Christmas are going. She said that while they still haven’t fully compiled their data for 2023, they’ve seen 23 new clients seek out their services this month alone. She said that on average they serve about 600-700 clients every year, and this year they were prepared to distribute 280 Christmas food baskets compared to the 230 they typically make.

She said that they would be holding their annual food drive on Thursday December 7 from 6-9 a.m. at various high traffic intersections throughout the region in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Campbell’s Bay and Shawville. The event is the biggest fundraiser in their calendar and Laroche said that it typically brings in between $10-13,000.
