Black River Road flooded, closed to local traffic only

The Municipality of Waltham is warning residents that the Black River Road is closed to local traffic only due to flooding.

“At kilometer 12, there is currently approximately one (1) foot of water on the road. Road closure signs have been installed at the entrance to the road,” the statement reads. “Anyone who chooses to drive in this area does so at their own risk. We thank you for your understanding and encourage everyone to exercise caution.”

Mayor Odette Godin said that the road has a history of flooding, and added that she was unhappy with the quality of information that they receive from Evolugen, a private company that operates a dam on the river. She said that the town foreman was monitoring the road, but repeated flooding was damaging to their infrastructure.
