This past Saturday, Xavier Lusignan climbed to the top of the podium at the Junior Pan-American Weightlifting Championships in Lima Peru, taking gold in the 96kg category. He took gold in overall weight lifted and in the clean and jerk, as well as a silver in the snatch. Back in Canada this week, he explained that after he placed second in the snatch portion of the competition, the overall winner was decided by his final lift.

He said that he had his sights set on the Junior World Championships coming up early next year, as they will be the last he’s able to compete at before he takes the step up to senior competition. The 19 year old also had high praise for his younger sister Naomie, who, despite competing in an older age category, managed to place 6th in her first Junior Pan-Am games.

The full interview with Lusignan (11m35) is available here.
