29 November 2019 à 12:00 am

A 46-year-old man from Portage-du-Fort was arrested Wednesday for reckless driving.
At around 2:45 p.m. yesterday, the Sûreté du Québec were informed that a person was driving dangerously in the village of Portage-du-Fort; skidding and squealing the tires of his vehicle, which caused the explosion of one of the tires. In addition, the suspect allegedly assaulted a person for no apparent reason.

The police located the vehicle at the intersection of highway 301 and Chemin Calumet but the suspect refused to stop. A short chase then proceeded on highway 301 northbound at low speed, as the suspect was traveling in a truck with an exploded wheel. He decided to continue down a wooden path and his vehicle was almost no longer moving due to damages.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital to treat a minor hand injury. He will be released under promise to appear in the Campbell’s Bay Courthouse at a later date, where he may be facing charges of impaired driving, reckless driving, evasion, assault, assault on an officer and misdeeds.
