Another rupture of service in surgery and obstetrics at the Shawville Hospital
The Outaouais Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSSO) issued a statement that the Shawville Hospital will face another rupture of services:
In general surgery from Saturday to Monday, April 13th to April 15th, and in obstetric from Friday to Monday, April 12th to April 15th.
There will be no surgeon on duty at Shawville and trauma patients will be referred to the nearest trauma center, depending on the case. Surgeons at Gatineau and Hull hospitals will be working together over the weekend to monitor the patient’s clinical condition. The operating room will continue its regular activities with regards to specialized surgeries such as: orthopaedic surgeries, gynaecological surgeries, endoscopies, etc.
Pregnant women or women in labor will be redirected to hospitals in Gatineau or Pembroke. The CISSS de l’Outaouais made it clear that all surgical positions are filled in the Pontiac. They also added that the absence of the doctor(s) on duty is temporary, and considered an exceptional situation.
