Annual survey on Quebecers’ and Ontarians’ intentions to visit during the summer despite inflation

Despite the economic context and the rising cost of living, which continue to influence consumer habits, Quebecers still plan to fully enjoy the summer of 2026.

This is what the latest survey released by Événements Attractions Québec, in collaboration with Segma Recherche, reveals. According to the results, 95% of Quebecers plan to take part in at least one recreational or tourism activity during the summer season. François G. Chevrier, Executive Director of Événements Attractions Québec, tells us what stood out most from the survey:

“Quebecers intend on participating to at least one activity this summer, 95% of them to be exact. This is great news because it shows people want to discover the province and be active.”

Festivals and events remain the most popular activities, followed by parks and natural sites, as well as cultural activities and shows. On average, Quebec respondents plan to take part in 3.6 activities this summer.

The study also highlights a growing interest in Indigenous experiences. Nearly one in four Quebecers wishes to explore this type of activity, while almost half of Ontarians planning to visit Quebec also express this interest. Once again, François G. Chevrier adds:

“Based on the results of a study conducted by Tourisme Autochtone Quebec, both Quebecers and Ontarians are interested in Indigenous experiences. In the Quebec region, there will be 25 Powwows this Summer to allow people to experience the Indigenous cultures.”

Even though many households say they need to cut certain expenses, their intentions to go out remain strong. Many respondents instead plan to adjust their habits by choosing free activities, lower‑cost options, or activities located close to their region.

In Ontario, 46% of respondents say they plan to visit Quebec this summer, a proportion similar to last year. Festivals, museums, cultural activities, and natural sites are among the most sought‑after attractions.

According to Événements Attractions Québec, these results show that visitors continue to favour local and regional experiences despite economic challenges.
