André Fortin echoes his party’s promise to freeze Hydro-Québec rates
The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) wants to freeze Hydro-Quebec rates to give citizens a break. According to the Liberals, unlike the cost of gas or the grocery bill, the government can control electricity rates in Quebec. Several members of the PLQ, including Pontiac MNA André Fortin, addressed their constituents via social media.
“The cost of living is going up dramatically, whether it’s the cost of fueling your car, whether it’s the cost of the grocery bill, or the cost of housing, the electricity cost,” he said. “Everything is going up rapidly these day, but there’s one bill that the government of Quebec controls entirely and that’s your hydro bill that you get every month. The Coalition Avenir Quebec is proposing, actually will next month, increase that bill by 2.6% and will increase it by at least 5% next year. What we’re proposing is to freeze the tariffs at what they are now, and to eliminate the sales tax on the hydro bills.”
Hydro-Québec’s next update will increase rates by 2.6%, starting April 1.
