André Fortin asks for a scientific commission in the National Assembly
The MNA for Pontiac and official opposition critic for health and vitality of the regions, André Fortin, asked the Legault government whether they planned on creating an independent scientific commission on the management of the Hydro dams in the Pontiac. Here is a clip from the National Assembly of the exchange between Fortin and the Minister of Public Safety, Geneviève Guilbault.
On May 24th, the MNA for Pontiac spoke to CHIP 101.9 in support of the municipality of Mansfield’s resolution for the investigation of the management of the Hydro Dams. He also mentioned that he wanted a scientific commission to be put in place at the National Assembly, such as the one created for the 1996 floods in Saguenay. André Fortin shared the excerpt of his question on Tuesday on Facebook.
” First and foremost, I am the voice of the people of Pontiac here at the National Assembly. And on the floods, our wishes are clear. We want an independent inquiry into the causes of the floods, namely on management of dams. Many municipalities have asked for this. The Pontiac MRC has asked for this. The City of Gatineau has asked for this. So today, I formally asked the government to hold such an inquiry. Unfortunately, the Minister did not commit to holding this inquiry. How can we better prepare for the future if we do not know the causes of the 2019 floods?”
