Shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday August 25, Sûreté du Québec officers from the MRC Pontiac detachment intercepted a vehicle that had just turned off Hwy. 148 into the parking lot of a licensed establishment on L’Isle-aux-Allumettes. SQ spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier said that the traffic stop was initiated due to a burned out headlight.

Following some initial checks officers arrested the driver, a 39 year-old man from Pembroke, for suspected drug-impaired driving. He was taken to the local SQ branch and then the hospital for a blood sample. He was released and is due back at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse, where he could face charges including impaired driving, possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and possession of “burglary tools”.

Police discovered drugs in the vehicle and seized 19 methamphetamine pills, 30 grams of methamphetamine crystals as well as burglary tools.

Officers also arrested the passenger, a 38 year-old Ontario woman. She was released with a date at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse where she could face charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
