15 July 2026 à 1:02 pm

Loisir sport Outaouais recently held its 3rd Regional Day for Recreation for People with Disabilities, an event that brought together more than 50 participants from all the regional county municipalities (MRCs) of the Outaouais region.

This day of exchange and discovery aimed to unite the various stakeholders involved in the development of accessible and inclusive recreation. Participants were able to attend several workshops and presentations on important issues, including animal-assisted therapy, the design of public spaces, and conditions that promote volunteer involvement for people with disabilities.

Specialized suppliers were also present to showcase equipment and materials adapted to the needs of this clientele.

In the afternoon, participants were able to try out various adapted sports activities, including wheelchair basketball, boccia, and adapted curling.

The highlight of the day was the presentation by Charlie Rousseau, known for her television and social media appearances. With humor and authenticity, she shared her experience and recounted the daily challenges related to her physical disability.

For the organizers, this meeting has become an essential event for fostering networking among municipalities, community organizations, associations, and stakeholders.

The discussions held throughout the day help to raise awareness of best practices and to continue efforts to make recreational activities increasingly accessible to people with disabilities throughout the Outaouais region.
