The Société de Protection des Fôrets contre le feu (SOPFEU) issued a press release yesterday announcing that another cohort of Canadian firefighters would join the fire efforts in Australia on February 6th. The SOPFEU confirmed that they would be sending four Outaouais firefighters from the Maniwaki base, notably Philippe Fortin, a Fort-Coulonge firefighter from Mansfield.

The information officer of the Canadian Inter-agency Forest Fire Center Mélanie Morin, gave more details:

These four firemen are part of a section of twenty forest firefighters, an agency representative and a specialist in forest fire management that will next be deployed as part of the Canadian resources coordinated by the Canadian Inter-agency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC).

Since December 3rd, Canada has deployed nearly 238 resources to Australia to date. From the SOPFEU in Maniwaki, we can note the presence of the contrôleur au centre régional de lutte de la SOPFEU, Garry Pearson, a resident of Fort-Coulonge.

The Canadian team will leave Vancouver for Australia on February 6th.
